Yes it was an amazing, rare, well played show that will remain the stuff of legends. That said, phish has repeatedly expressed the desire NOT to be a nostalgia act over the years. What do they do? Two consecutive NYE nostalgia gags in a row! Whats more, one those gags violates the holy sanctity of the 1.0 legend that is a complete Gamehendge. It seems almost everyone at MSG lapped it up, but between S2/S3 setbreak I overheard someone say on the phone "this band is out of ideas", and that take doesn't lie. Stunts like last night and NYE2022 isn't what got Phish to where they are now and while the after-show glow may be nice, this show will certainly certainly mark a new era for the band. I hope they can recover.
